Overview

Which transmission facilities bound in ERCOT's real-time market and what each one cost, one row per interval and constraint. 8.42M rows, 2014-05 to now. Columns: event_time, constraint_name, shadow_price_usd_mwh, plus contingency (the outage the limit is evaluated against), from_station and to_station (the ends of the constrained element), limit_mw and flow_mw. The shadow price is the marginal cost of the binding limit — what the market would have saved from one more megawatt of capability on that element. This is the table that answers WHY congestion appeared; a price spread between two locations shows that they separated but not which facility separated them.

Ancillary Service PricesHourly market clearing prices for the ancillary services ERCOT procures alongside energy in its Day-Ahead Market, broken out by product: Regulation Up (RegUp), Regulation Down (RegDown), Responsive Reserve (RRS), Non-Spinning Reserve (NSPIN), and the ERCOT Contingency Reserve Service (ECRS). These prices represent what the grid pays per megawatt to hold capacity in reserve for frequency control and contingency response, separate from the energy itself. Watching them shows when reserves are scarce and expensive (often during tight or volatile conditions), which informs how generators and storage operators allocate capacity between energy and reserve markets, and gives researchers a read on the cost of keeping the Texas grid reliable. ECRS, added in 2023, is the newest of these products and has at times cleared at notably high levels.CRR Monthly Auction ResultsCleared ERCOT monthly Congestion Revenue Right auction awards, one row per source-to-sink CRR and time-of-use block, including awarded MW and the auction shadow price per MWh. This is public auction evidence for who acquired a path and at what clearing price. It does not contain realized day-ahead congestion settlements, fees, later trades, the holder's full portfolio, or net profit, so auction cost must not be described as payout or profitability. This is the preferred dataset for a current actual-versus-forecast demand comparison: series='realized' reports observed demand_mw, series='intraday_forecast' reports demand_mw forecast for the same target event_time at successive source_time vintages, and series='forward_forecast' reports forecasted_demand_mw farther ahead. It also carries committed and available capacity. Operators, traders, and researchers use it to measure current forecast error, headroom, and how forecasts converge toward realized demand.DAM Settlement Point PricesHourly settlement point prices cleared in the ERCOT Day-Ahead Market, covering every settlement point in Texas (load zones, hubs, and resource nodes). These are the prices at which energy is bought and sold a day in advance of delivery, set the afternoon before each operating day. They are the day-ahead counterpart to real-time locational prices, and the gap between the two reflects how the market expected conditions to differ from how they actually unfolded. Traders use them to position and hedge, generators and loads use them to plan commitments, and researchers use them to study how congestion and scarcity show up across the grid.
