ISO-NE publishes cleared prices, not probabilistic forecasts, so no band is shown. Winter gas constraints are the dominant risk: a cold snap can move real-time prices several-fold against day-ahead within a day.
New England trades against the Internal Hub — the pool-wide benchmark — while settling load at eight zones. This page plots the hub alongside NEMA/Boston, Connecticut, and Maine, so both the benchmark and the geographic spread are visible on one chart.
New England's marginal generator is a gas plant more hours than in any other US market, and its pipelines run full in winter. That coupling means power prices here track gas prices — and in a January cold snap, they track spot LNG. Winter is when day-ahead and real-time diverge hardest.
ISO-NE's day-ahead market is a financially binding auction clearing the day before delivery. Its prices are the market's collective expectation, carrying risk premia — which is why the honest read is against what settled, as the scorecard above does.

The pool-wide benchmark price for New England — an aggregate across the system that forwards and hedges settle against, shown here alongside the load zones that actually pay it.
Because gas plants set the marginal price most hours and the region's pipeline capacity is tight. In winter, heating demand takes the pipeline space first, so power prices ride spot gas — and occasionally spot LNG — harder than anywhere else in the country.
Day-ahead clears on expectations; real time clears on conditions. In New England the sharpest divergences come in winter, when a colder-than-forecast evening tightens both the power system and the gas system underneath it at once.
