New England's operating wind fleet is a couple of gigawatts, mostly ridge-line projects in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The transformation is offshore: Vineyard Wind and the projects behind it in the federal lease areas south of Martha's Vineyard are beginning to deliver — and offshore capacity factors will make wind a materially bigger part of this page every year.
In a gas-constrained market, every megawatt of wind on a winter evening is a megawatt of pipeline gas not burned for power. Wind's correlation with winter storms makes its forecast part of New England's reliability arithmetic, not just its energy mix.

Geography: the region has limited onshore wind resources and no in-region gas production, but some of the best offshore wind waters in the country a short cable-run from its load centers. Offshore wind is the region's largest domestic supply option.
