Big Cajun 2
Big Cajun 2 is a three-unit steam-turbine generating station located at 10431 Cajun 2 Road–Hwy 981, New Roads, Louisiana 70760, in Pointe Coupee Parish, operated by Louisiana Generating LLC. The facility includes Unit 1 (657.9 MW conventional steam coal, out of service), Unit 2 (626 MW natural-gas steam turbine, operating), and Unit 3 (619 MW conventional steam coal capable of coal/natural-gas cofiring, operating and jointly owned). Total operating nameplate capacity is 1,245 MW across the two operating units; aggregate nameplate capacity is 1,902.9 MW. The plant is interconnected at 500 kV to the Entergy transmission system in MISO and the SERC region, with the Mississippi River as its water source. Unit 2 was converted from coal to natural gas in a project that included new gas-supply piping, flue-gas-recirculation fan foundations, hazardous-area reclassification, and electrical and instrumentation work. The asset is located on a 2,000-acre site. Cleco Cajun held a 58% ownership interest in Unit 3 capacity until June 1, 2024, when Cleco sold its interests to Big Pelican LLC and Pelican South Central LLC, affiliates of Atlas Capital Resources IV LP.
