Cayuga Generating Station is a Duke Energy Indiana power plant in Vermillion County, Indiana, on the Wabash River. It combines two coal-fired steam units built in 1970 and 1972, a 1993 natural-gas combustion turbine, and four small oil-fired peaking units, for a combined nameplate capacity of roughly 1,185 MW. The plant sells into MISO, settling at price nodes located essentially on-site. Under that plan, coal Unit 1 is scheduled to retire in 2029 and coal Unit 2 in 2030 as the new gas units come online, though the plant itself keeps running. As part of a settlement with Indiana coal producers, Duke is also studying whether the retiring coal units could be sold for continued third-party operation rather than demolished.
