CC Perry K
CC Perry K is a natural gas steam turbine power plant with 5 MW of nameplate capacity (3 MW net summer) in Marion County, Indiana. The plant sits in downtown Indianapolis at the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and West Street, where it began generating electricity in 1893 as the Indianapolis Light and Power Company's Kentucky Avenue Station before being converted around 1905 to produce district-heating steam. Today the plant is owned and operated by Citizens Energy Group through its Citizens Thermal division, which acquired the facility in 2000. Citizens Thermal has said the boilers were shifted from coal to natural gas, and in 2026 the utility removed the plant's decades-old overhead coal conveyor as part of continued modernization. Perry K still functions as the anchor of one of the largest district steam systems in the country, supplying heat and hot water to more than 200 downtown buildings and driving chilled-water service that cools over 60 more, including Lucas Oil Stadium and the IU Indianapolis campus.
