Flint Creek
Flint Creek Unit 1 is a 558 MW conventional steam coal plant located at 21797 SWEPCO Plant Road, Gentry, Arkansas, in Benton County. Southwestern Electric Power Company operates the plant and owns 50%; Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation owns the remaining 50%. The unit primarily burns subbituminous coal from Wyoming's Powder River Basin and can use distillate fuel oil for startup or contingencies. It was placed in service in May 1978. A dry flue-gas desulfurization scrubber and activated-carbon injection system were completed in May 2016 to meet EPA environmental requirements. The plant serves as a baseload generation resource in the Northwest Arkansas grid and the Southwest Power Pool balancing area, connected via a 345-kV transmission system.
