Hungry Horse is a 428 MW conventional hydroelectric plant with four generating units in Flathead County, Montana. The plant sits at Hungry Horse Dam on the South Fork Flathead River near Glacier National Park and is owned and operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. At 564 feet high with a morning-glory spillway that is the highest in the world, the dam is one of the largest concrete arch dams in the United States. Reclamation has completed environmental review for a Hungry Horse Powerplant Modernization and Overhaul Project intended to keep the aging units generating for another 30 years while preserving flood-control and fisheries operations. No whole-plant retirement is scheduled.
