Overview

A step series: each row holds from its event_time until the next row. Alberta has one system price; there are no nodal or zonal prices and no day-ahead market.

Query contract

Preserve one canonical row per (event_time) before aggregating.

Analysis rules

  • The price in effect at time T is the latest row with event_time <= T.
  • A time-weighted average weights each row by the minutes until the next; that average over an hour is close to, but is not, the settled pool price (aeso.pool_price).

Interpretation

  • Prices are Canadian dollars per MWh. Never add, rank or average them with US-dollar prices without a dated exchange rate, and say which rate was used.
  • Prices are floored at $0 and capped at $999.99/MWh.
