SPP settles trade against two hubs: North (Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas) and South (Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle). Both sit inside the US wind belt, and the spread between them is mostly a wind-and-transmission story — when the north is windy and the lines south are full, the hubs price apart.
SPP regularly serves more than half its load from wind — the highest share of any US market. Prices follow the wind forecast: windy nights clear near or below zero, calm summer evenings clear high. That makes the day-ahead-versus-real-time comparison here largely a wind-forecast scorecard.
