Greenidge Generation LLC

Greenidge Generation LLC is a primarily natural-gas-fired electric generating facility located in the Town of Torrey, Yates County, New York, on Seneca Lake. The facility is identified by NYISO as Greenidge 4 (resource 23583) with 112.5 MW gross nameplate capacity and 106.3 MW net capability. It is a single-turbine Rankine-cycle steam generating plant fueled by natural gas and biomass. Originally placed in service as a coal-fired plant in 1937 by NYSEG and subsequently operated by AES, the facility was acquired by Atlas Holdings affiliates in February 2014 and converted from coal to natural gas, commencing commercial operations in March 2017. The facility sells electricity, capacity, and ancillary services through NYISO while supporting behind-the-meter load for Greenidge's cryptocurrency-mining and datacenter operations. In June 2022, NYSDEC denied renewal of the facility's Title V air permit based on findings that continued operation would be inconsistent with New York's greenhouse-gas limits under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act; however, in November 2025, Greenidge and NYSDEC announced a landmark agreement providing a pathway for issuance of a new five-year Title V permit.
