AES Petersburg
AES Petersburg (Petersburg Generating Station) is a 1,349.9 MW power plant on the White River in Pike County, Indiana, about 120 miles southwest of Indianapolis. It is owned and operated by AES Indiana (formerly Indianapolis Power & Light Co.), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation. The plant's current fleet consists of two large coal-fired steam units, in service since 1977 and 1986, plus three small 2.7 MW oil-fired peaking units dating to 1967. AES Indiana projects the switch will save customers about $281 million over 20 years and make it the first Indiana investor-owned utility to fully exit coal. Two older coal units at the site (Units 1 and 2, dating to the 1960s) were already retired in 2021 and 2023 and no longer appear in the operating fleet.
