Bethpage Power Plant (EIA 50292) is a 239.6 MW operating natural-gas facility located at 939 South Broadway in Hicksville, Nassau County, New York. The facility consists of six generators: GEN1, GEN2, and GEN3 are natural-gas combined-cycle units that began operating in August 1989; GEN5 is a natural-gas combustion turbine that began operating in July 2002; and GEN6 and GEN7 are natural-gas combined-cycle units that began operating in July 2005. The plant evolved from a 1989 Grumman Aerospace cogeneration project through a joint venture involving General Electric, Brooklyn Union Gas, and J. Makowski Associates. Calpine acquired a 45% interest in December 1997 from Brooklyn Union Gas and the remaining 55% in 1998. The facility operates in the NYISO balancing area and is interconnected through Long Island Power Authority infrastructure at 69 kV. It has supplied seasonal peaking capacity and baseload power to Long Island under long-term power purchase agreements.
