Cardinal

Cardinal Power Plant is a three-unit conventional steam-coal facility operated by Cardinal Operating Company on the Ohio River in Brilliant, Jefferson County, Ohio. All three generating units are owned by Buckeye Power Generating, LLC. Unit 1 (590 MW, commercial service February 1967) was acquired by Buckeye Power from AEP Generation Resources in August 2022. Unit 2 (590 MW, commercial service July 1967) and Unit 3 (620 MW, commercial service September 1977) are owned by Buckeye Power. Unit 3 is planned for retirement by December 2028. The plant has aggregate capacity of approximately 1,800 MW and is interconnected to PJM at 345 kV.
