Southern California Edison Co - Los Angeles County - CAISO
Cathode (Hinson) BESS is Southern California Edison's 200 MW utility-owned battery energy storage system located at the Hinson Substation in Long Beach, Los Angeles County. It is one of three sites in SCE's Reliability Utility-Owned Energy Storage (RUOES) program. The facility is designed to store electricity and provide full power output for up to four hours when fully charged, serving as a distribution-level reliability resource. The plant comprises two 100 MW battery units, CATH1 and CATH2, with an aggregate energy storage capacity of 800 MWh. The system uses CATL's EnerC containerized liquid-cooling lithium-ion battery technology and is integrated with FlexGen's HybridOS energy management platform. Ameresco served as the turnkey engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance contractor.
