Chesterfield
Chesterfield is an operating natural-gas-fired combined-cycle electric generating station located in Chester, Chesterfield County, Virginia, owned and operated by Virginia Electric & Power Co, a subsidiary of Dominion Energy Inc. The facility comprises four operable generators—CT7, CT8, CW7, and CW8—organized into two combined-cycle blocks (CH7 and CH8) with a combined nameplate capacity of 446.6 MW. CT7 and CW7 commenced operation in June 1990; CT8 and CW8 followed in May 1992. The station's broader site originally included coal-fired units (Units 3–6), which were retired between 2019 and 2023. All current units are natural-gas-fired, interconnected to PJM at 230 kV via the Chesterfield Substation, and operate with no announced retirement date. A separate proposed Chesterfield Energy Reliability Center, a simple-cycle project with up to 1,000 MW capacity, is planned on the same property but is not part of EIA plant 3797.
