Dallman
Dallman Station is a coal-fired power plant on the north shore of Lake Springfield in Springfield, Illinois. It is owned and operated by the city's municipal utility, City Water, Light & Power (CWLP). The plant's sole operating unit is Dallman 4, a 230 MW pulverized-coal unit that entered service in 2009 and burns high-sulfur Illinois coal. CWLP's three older coal units, Dallman 31 and 32 (retired December 2020) and Dallman 33 (retired in 2021 after storm damage to its turbine), no longer run, leaving Unit 4 as CWLP's only coal-fired generator. Dallman sells into MISO. Unit 4 hosts a Department of Energy-backed pilot project with the University of Illinois testing a large-scale Linde/BASF post-combustion carbon-capture system. A July 2025 federal executive order temporarily exempts Dallman's coal unit from certain Mercury and Air Toxics Standards deadlines, through July 9, 2029.
