Dark Sky Energy Center
Dark Sky Energy Center is SDG&E’s battery addition to the Borrego Springs microgrid in San Diego County. The August 2026 EIA inventory lists one operating generator with 7.3 MW of nameplate capacity. SDG&E’s project reporting describes the system as 7.33 MW / 14.66 MWh; that project rating and EIA’s rounded inventory rating are identified separately. The installation is distinct from Borrego Springs Energy Storage’s older SES1 and SES2 batteries. SDG&E removed the proposed hydrogen-storage component from the project scope; it is not part of this battery installation.
