Hawks Nest Hydro
Hawks Nest Hydro is a 102 MW conventional hydroelectric plant in Fayette County. Hawks Nest is a 102-MW run-of-river hydroelectric plant on the New River in Fayette County, West Virginia, owned by Hawks Nest Hydro LLC, a subsidiary of Brookfield Renewable Energy Group. Union Carbide's New-Kanawha Power Company built it in the 1930s, and its powerhouse holds four identical 25.5-MW, 25-Hz units. Brookfield took over the facility in 2006. It is West Virginia's largest hydro plant, and its output serves a single industrial customer at Alloy. A Microsoft power purchase agreement is helping fund replacement of two of the four units, which would raise capacity to 108.5 MW.
