Claytor Hydroelectric Plant is a conventional hydroelectric facility in Pulaski County, Virginia, with four operating generating units totaling 74.8 MW of nameplate capacity (58.8 MW net summer). The plant is owned and operated by Appalachian Power Company, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, which built the dam on the New River and completed the powerhouse in 1939, impounding the 4,472-acre Claytor Lake reservoir. It operates under FERC Project No. 739, and FERC issued Appalachian Power a new operating license for the project on December 27, 2011.
