Meldahl Hydroelectric Project
Meldahl is a 105-megawatt run-of-river hydroelectric plant built into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Captain Anthony B. Meldahl Locks and Dam on the Ohio River in Bracken County, Kentucky. The project is jointly held under a FERC license (Project No. 12667, originally issued to Hamilton in 2008) by the City of Hamilton, Ohio and American Municipal Power, a nonprofit joint-action agency representing dozens of municipal electric systems; Hamilton runs the plant day to day and AMP's participating members take a contracted share of the output. The Low Impact Hydropower Institute certified the project as low-impact for a term running through September 2032. Meldahl sells its output into PJM, settling at its own plant-level generation nodes rather than at a distant hub.
