John H Kerr

John H Kerr is a conventional hydroelectric project in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The facility consists of a gravity-type dam with a powerhouse containing seven generating units, a switchyard, and associated structures on the Roanoke River. It serves dual purposes of flood control and hydroelectric power generation. The plant generates approximately 426,749 MWh annually and has prevented over $400 million in cumulative downstream flood damage since 1952. The plant interconnects at 115 kV to Dominion's transmission system within the PJM balancing authority area.
