Pioneer Generation Station
Pioneer Generation Station (EIA plant 57881) is a natural-gas-fired generation facility operated by Basin Electric Power Cooperative near Williston, Williams County, North Dakota. The facility comprises five combustion-turbine units and eighteen internal-combustion reciprocating-engine units totaling approximately 897 MW nameplate capacity. Phase IV, completed in September 2025, added two Siemens F-class simple-cycle combustion turbines (246 MW each) and six Wärtsilä reciprocating engines (approximately 19 MW each) for a total Phase IV contribution of approximately 580 MW. The station serves dispatchable generation to support load growth and grid stability in the Bakken region.
