R S Nelson
R S Nelson (EIA plant 1393) is a 1,433.6 MW multi-fuel thermal electric generating plant located at 3500 Houston River Road, Westlake, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, operating within MISO. The plant comprises four steam-turbine generators: Generator 1 (113.6 MW petroleum-coke CHP unit, operating since February 1959), Generator 2 (113.6 MW petroleum-coke CHP unit, operating since May 1959), Generator 4 (591.8 MW natural-gas unit, operating since July 1970), and Generator 6 (614.6 MW conventional subbituminous-coal unit, commissioned in May 1982). Entergy Louisiana LLC operates the plant and owns Generator 4 outright; the other units are jointly owned by industrial co-owners and cooperatives. The plant is interconnected at 230 kV and 138 kV to the MISO transmission system at the Nelson substation (RTO nodes EES.NELSON1, EES.NELSON2, EES.NELSON4, and EES.NELSON6). Unit 6 has a planned 2028 deactivation assumption in current Entergy Louisiana resource planning.
