Nine Mile Point

Nine Mile Point (EIA plant ID 1403) is a regulated, primarily natural-gas-fired power plant at 1617 River Road, Westwego, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, operated by Entergy Louisiana LLC. The facility comprises five generators totaling 2,439.7 MW of nameplate capacity: Units 4 and 5 are dual-fuel natural-gas steam turbines commissioned in 1971 and 1973 respectively, each rated at 895.1 MW; Unit 6 is a 2×1 combined-cycle block completed in December 2014, consisting of two GE 7F.04 gas turbines (6A and 6B, each 194.7 MW) feeding a Vogt Power International heat-recovery steam generator, and a Toshiba steam turbine (6C, 260.1 MW). The plant draws cooling water from the Mississippi River and operates within the MISO balancing area at 230 kV and 115 kV grid voltages. Unit 6 is dual-fuel capable (natural gas and fuel oil); Units 4 and 5 operate primarily on natural gas with fuel oil as backup. The facility serves as a must-run reliability resource for the Amite South Area. Entergy Louisiana owns Unit 6 and retains 55% of its output; Entergy Gulf States Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans purchase 25% and 20% respectively under life-of-unit power purchase agreements.
