Unit 4 began commercial operation in March 1977 after test operation, repairs, and testing following a February 1977 fuel-oil leak and fire.
PPL completed the spinoff of its competitive energy business, and the business was immediately combined with Riverstone Holdings generation assets to form Talen Energy. PPL’s former Pennsylvania power plants, including Martins Creek, became part of Talen; the transaction was not reported as a standalone Martins Creek sale with separate consideration.
Talen refinanced the non-recourse Lower Mount Bethel–Martins Creek subsidiary debt through a $290 million upsizing of its 2030 Term Loan B. The financing repaid project-financing debt and brought the assets into the Talen credit group.
