Overview

The total supply_mw field is positive when batteries are discharging into the grid and negative when they are charging from the grid; standalone_batteries_mw and hybrid_batteries_mw are components of that total, not additional generation to add on top. This is the live operating series published in CAISO Today's Outlook, not nameplate capacity or state of charge.

Query contract

Read caiso.storage_live with FINAL, bound current observations at event_time <= now(), and select the latest row with non-null supply_mw.

Analysis rules

  • supply_mw is the fleet total. Do not add standalone_batteries_mw and hybrid_batteries_mw to supply_mw; the two components already sum to that total when both are present.
  • Positive supply_mw means net discharging into the grid; negative supply_mw means net charging from the grid.

Interpretation

  • This is net power in MW, not stored energy, state of charge, nameplate capacity, or interval energy in MWh.
  • The daily source can contain later blank intervals, so a current claim must use the latest non-null observation at or before now().
