Big Sandy
Big Sandy is a single-generator natural-gas steam-turbine facility located at 23000 Highway 23, Louisa, Lawrence County, Kentucky. Unit 1 was originally a 278 MW coal-fired steam unit completed in 1963; it was converted to natural gas in 2016 and currently has 280.5 MW of nameplate capacity. The plant is owned and operated by Kentucky Power Company and supplies electricity through the PJM Interconnection at 345 kV. The facility is regulated by the Kentucky Public Service Commission and reports to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
