Morgantown Generating Plant
Morgantown Generating Plant (EIA 1573) is a four-unit petroleum-liquids generating facility located at 12620 Crain Highway, Newburg, Charles County, Maryland. The plant comprises Generators 3–6, four General Electric Power Frame 7 combustion-turbine units, each with 65 MW nameplate capacity, for a total of 260 MW. The units entered service in May–June 1973 and operate on distillate fuel oil. As of June 2026, the plant was operating and generating approximately 23.8 GWh annually. On February 2, 2026, Chesapeake Data LLC (a wholly owned subsidiary of TeraWulf Inc.) announced an agreement to acquire Morgantown Power LLC from Lanyard Power Holdings LLC. FERC authorized the ownership transfer on July 29, 2026; the transaction remains subject to closing conditions.
