Vienna Operations
The plant comprises two units: Generator 8, a 162 MW residual-fuel-oil steam turbine that began operating in January 1972 (installed December 1971), and Generator 10, an 18.6 MW distillate-fuel-oil combustion turbine that began operating in January 1968 (installed April 1968). Vienna Power LLC owns the plant at 100%, NRG Vienna Operations Inc operates it, and NRG Energy Inc is the parent company. The facility draws cooling water from the Nanticoke River and interconnects to the 138 kV grid via Delmarva Power's transmission system. NRG Energy acquired the plant in June 2001 from Delmarva Power and Light, a subsidiary of Conectiv, as part of a 1,081 MW generation portfolio purchase. The plant participates in PJM's capacity market through NRG Power Marketing LLC. As of June 2026, both generators remain in operating status with no planned retirement date.
