Palisades
Palisades is a single-unit pressurized-water nuclear power plant in Covert Township, Van Buren County, Michigan, with a nameplate capacity of 811.8 MW. The plant began commercial operation on December 31, 1971, after construction started in March 1967. It was permanently shut down on May 20, 2022, after more than 50 years of generation. Holtec International acquired the plant from Entergy in June 2022 and initiated a restart effort. In July 2025, the NRC approved reauthorization of power operations; the plant transitioned to operations status on August 25, 2025, and remained in final restart preparations as of July 2026. When restored to service, it will provide firm baseload generation to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) resource mix. The plant is a Combustion Engineering pressurized-water reactor with a Westinghouse turbine-generator, interconnected at 345 kV through a switchyard connecting six off-site transmission lines.
