PSEG Hope Creek Generating Station

PSEG Hope Creek Generating Station is a single-unit boiling-water reactor nuclear generating station located in Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey, in Salem County. The facility is wholly owned and operated by PSEG Nuclear LLC. The NRC issued the operating license on July 25, 1986, and renewed it on July 20, 2011; the current license expires April 11, 2046. An extended power uprate was approved in 2008, increasing authorized capacity from approximately 1,061 to 1,225 megawatts electric. Hope Creek is located on a 740-acre site in Salem County shared with Salem Generating Station, and together the two stations comprise the fourth-largest nuclear generating facility in the United States. The facility operates as a merchant competitive generator in the PJM wholesale market and generates sufficient electricity to power approximately one million homes daily. PSEG has announced its intention to seek a 20-year subsequent license renewal that, if approved, would extend the license expiration to 2066 and enable continued operation beyond 2046.
