Sherco Solar I is the first phase of Xcel Energy's Sherco Solar project at the Sherburne County generating site near Becker, Minnesota. Its initial connection to the grid in late October 2024 delivered more than 220 megawatts, and Xcel marked the milestone with a ribbon cutting on November 19, 2024. It is the first large-scale solar facility Xcel has owned and operated, reuses the coal plant's existing grid connections, and replaces the capacity of the first Sherco coal unit retired in 2023.
