Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co - Noble County - SPP
Sooner (EIA plant ID 6095) is an operating 1,138 MW coal-fired power station located near Red Rock in Noble County, Oklahoma. It consists of two conventional steam coal generators using subbituminous coal as the primary fuel with distillate fuel oil for startup. Unit 1 began operation in November 1979 and Unit 2 in December 1980. The station includes a major environmental retrofit comprising two ANDRITZ Turbo CDS circulating dry-scrubbing systems with fabric filters, lime handling, waste-byproduct handling, and induced-draft fans, with Unit 1 scrubber declared commercial in October 2018 and Unit 2 scrubber expected commercial in early January 2019. In 2026, the U.S. Department of Energy allocated funding to modernize the station's Distributed Control System, replacing an obsolete ABB 800xA platform with an Emerson Ovation system.
