Kyger Creek
Kyger Creek Station is a five-unit coal-fired conventional steam power plant located in Cheshire, Ohio, operated by Ohio Valley Electric Corporation. Each of the five generating units is rated at 217 MW, with a total nameplate capacity of 1,086.5 MW. After the DOE power agreement ended in April 2003, Kyger Creek's entire output has been supplied to OVEC's sponsoring companies under an Inter-Company Power Agreement extended through June 2040. Recent environmental upgrades include dry fly-ash conversion (completed late 2022), closed-loop bottom-ash management (in service by October 2023), modified cooling-water intake screens (installation began 2024), and FGD-wastewater bioreactors (in service December 2025). The plant operates in PJM as a bulk-power generating resource, interconnecting at 345 kV through the OVEC INT settlement point.
