AEP and Alstom formally commissioned a chilled-ammonia carbon-capture and storage demonstration at Mountaineer; the pilot was designed to capture and store approximately 100,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
DOE's Mountaineer CCS II proposal contemplated a 235-MWe flue-gas slipstream system capturing approximately 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO2 annually. DOE proposed up to $334 million in cost-shared assistance, approximately half of estimated development cost.
