Midwest Generation EME LLC - Tazewell County - PJM
Powerton is an operating, coal-fired conventional steam generating station comprising Units 5 and 6 in Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois. Unit 5 entered service in September 1972 and Unit 6 in December 1975; each is rated at 892.8 MW nameplate capacity for a combined 1,785.6 MW. Powerton is connected to PJM through a 345 kV ComEd transmission interface and operates on subbituminous coal with natural gas available for startup. Environmental control systems installed or upgraded include dry sorbent injection (Trona DSI) and electrostatic precipitators to meet Illinois Combined Pollutant Standard and Mercury and Air Toxics Standards requirements. Following a reliability-related agreement between PJM and Midwest Generation, the units are currently expected to remain in operation through December 31, 2029.
