Discounts look likelier around Hub Average's $46.77/MWh evening peak
Monday, Oct 19, 2026 · ERCOT data as of 8:00 AM CDT
Issue of Oct 19 · generated 8:18 AM CTLatest
Hub Average leans below cleared day-ahead during 7-9 PM CDT: the model's discount now aligns with the latest evening outcome.
- Real time averaging above cleared prices would overturn that slight lean.
What changed since the last issue#
Hub Average now has a slight discount lean for 7-9 PM CDT. Hub Average's 24-hour real-time mean dropped to $21.12/MWh from the previous issue's $33.25/MWh, while Oct 18 delivered a $2.88/MWh average discount to cleared day-ahead during 7-10 PM CDT. Neither chosen threshold fired; the realized discount, rather than those misses, favors today's tentative discount lean.
From the last issue's watch list#
- Not met: ERCOT Hub Average real time over day-ahead averaging above $10.00/MWh, Oct 18, 7 to 10 PM (averaged -$2.88).
- Not met: ERCOT wind generation averaging below 9,000 MW, Oct 18, 7 to 10 PM (averaged 9,330 MW).

Tonight's cleared peak leaves room for a modest discount#
A modest Hub Average discount to cleared day-ahead is more likely during 7-9 PM CDT. For the 7 PM CDT delivery hour, Hub Average cleared at $46.77/MWh; Metis 1 Preview puts its middle forecast $6.28/MWh lower, at $40.49/MWh. The 7:30 AM CDT in-use demand forecast peaks at 56,451 MW in the hour ending 6 PM CDT, revised up 1,426 MW for the same delivery hours, keeping conviction modest.
The Oct 19 midnight-8 AM CDT averages clustered at $27.13/MWh North, $27.52/MWh South and $27.48/MWh for Hub Average. By the 5 AM CDT delivery hour, demand was 44,130 MW versus the Oct 18 peak of 52,374 MW at 7 PM CDT.
West's extra discount carries into the morning#
West's discount beyond the typical hub is the secondary relationship to follow tonight. In the Oct 19, 7 AM CDT hourly average, West ran $7.47/MWh below its day-ahead price, $1.72/MWh more discount than the typical hub's $5.75/MWh discount.
Reported physical responsive capability stood at 8,809 MW at 7:57 AM CDT, after a 6,271 MW decline from the preceding three-hour high. An evening price premium would prompt a fresh reserve and operator-notice review. No new causal news changes the view.
What to watch today#
- Hub Average real-time minus cleared day-ahead averaging above $0.00/MWh during Oct 19, 7-9 PM CDT would break the slight discount call.
- West Hub's real-time-minus-day-ahead gap averaging below -$5.00/MWh beyond the typical hub during Oct 19, 7-9 PM CDT would repeat its extra evening discount.
