A balancing area with no organized wholesale market

Southern Company's utilities operate one balancing area in the Eastern Interconnection. Power is dispatched by the utility rather than cleared through an ISO or RTO, so there is no system price or nodal settlement to chart. The map draws the territory from the retail service areas filed under SOCO.

Demand, the day-ahead demand forecast, generation by fuel and exchanges with each neighbor come from EIA-930 hourly reports. Southern also publishes the results of its energy auction: hour-ahead clearing prices, and day-ahead Firm-LD and Recall block prices. Each keeps its own delivery basis and publication time, and none is a nodal price.
