Full-month average
Houston Hub is the average price of a set of buses in ERCOT's Houston load zone, which covers the city and the industrial Gulf Coast around it.
Houston leans on a few major transmission paths into the zone, so it prices above the rest of ERCOT when those paths are loaded, especially on hot afternoons and during line outages.
Each average is the mean of every 5-minute real-time LMP ERCOT published at the hub in the period, Central time. ERCOT settles on 15-minute settlement point prices built from those same 5-minute prices, so the two track closely but can differ by cents.

When more power is offered than the grid can use or move, often wind or solar behind a transmission limit at night or midday, generators that are paid to produce keep running and the price falls below zero.
What Ask the Grid's detectors found in ERCOT's published data over the last two weeks, the most material episode of each kind per day.
Binding constraint
SCED could not keep DT PK 91 A within its limit under contingency DBI_GT_8, 3.7 MW past it, so its $3,500/MWh shadow price is ERCOT's shadow price cap rather than the cost of any resource. It has gone unheld for 45 minutes and bound on 20 of the previous 30 days. Since it went unheld, congestion across ERCOT's hubs has averaged $9/MWh wider than the hour before, widest now between South Hub and Panhandle Hub.
Local congestion
Panhandle Hub to West Load Zone spans $112/MWh while LAKENA SAMATH1 1 carries a $2,800/MWh shadow price. It has gone unheld for 15 minutes and bound on 8 of the previous 30 days. Congestion across ERCOT's hubs has not widened since it went unheld.
