What this shows
Where West Hub is
West Hub is the average price of a set of buses in ERCOT's West load zone: West Texas, the Permian Basin and much of the state's wind and solar.
What moves it
Renewable output that the lines east cannot carry pushes West below the other hubs, often negative overnight in windy weather. Permian oil and gas load pulls the other way.
How the averages are measured
Each average is the mean of every 5-minute real-time LMP ERCOT published at the hub in the period, Central time. ERCOT settles on 15-minute settlement point prices built from those same 5-minute prices, so the two track closely but can differ by cents.
What people ask

How is the monthly average calculated?
Each average is the mean of every 5-minute real-time LMP ERCOT published at the hub in the period, Central time. ERCOT settles on 15-minute settlement point prices built from those same 5-minute prices, so the two track closely but can differ by cents. Week to date starts on Monday; month to date starts on the 1st.
Is this the day-ahead or the real-time price?
Real time. Day-ahead prices clear a day earlier and usually differ, most of all on days when real-time conditions surprise the forecast.
