What this shows
Where North Hub is
North Hub is the average price of a set of buses in ERCOT's North load zone, centered on Dallas–Fort Worth. It is ERCOT's most traded hub and the reference most Texas power contracts settle against.
What moves it
Statewide supply and demand first: summer afternoon load, how much wind and solar is on, and gas prices. North also separates from the other hubs when transmission into the Metroplex binds.
How the averages are measured
Each average is the mean of every 5-minute real-time LMP ERCOT published at the hub in the period, Central time. ERCOT settles on 15-minute settlement point prices built from those same 5-minute prices, so the two track closely but can differ by cents.
What people ask
What is the ERCOT North Hub price today?
The panel above shows the latest real-time price at HB_NORTH and today's average so far, in $/MWh. It refreshes every minute.
How is the monthly average calculated?
Each average is the mean of every 5-minute real-time LMP ERCOT published at the hub in the period, Central time. ERCOT settles on 15-minute settlement point prices built from those same 5-minute prices, so the two track closely but can differ by cents. Week to date starts on Monday; month to date starts on the 1st.
Is this the day-ahead or the real-time price?
Real time. Day-ahead prices clear a day earlier and usually differ, most of all on days when real-time conditions surprise the forecast.
